"The main function of a school should be to prepare
students for life, not further study." What do you think?
In my opinion, I do not think this statement is true or false. I
do think schools should prepare students for further life, but obviously they
should also prepare for further study, although, I do not think either of these
is the “main function” of school.
The main function of school, I believe, is to learn. However, it
is important for schools to prepare students for life. Not all schools teach
children how to prepare for future life, they only prepare for further studies,
and I do not think this is right. A lot of schools mainly prepare for tests,
end of year exams, GCSE’s, etc. In my opinion these schools are not preparing
for future life, they are only testing children’s ability to remember things
they have learned. I think schools like this should in fact prepare students
for life because it is very important.
However, I still believe schools should prepare students for
further exams so they know what to expect in university and college. Preparing for further study can also
help with preparing for future life because students learn extra things that
could help them with what they want to do in the future.
The statement states that “the main function of school should be
to prepare students for life NOT further study.’ Overall I do not disagree with
this statement, nor do I agree with it. I think neither of these is the “main
function” and they are both equally important.
